What you will do
As a principal Engineer you will be part of an elite team of highly talented individuals all from diverse backgrounds, all working together to push the boundary of the art of the possible. Working closely with product managers, you will be solving problems that have the potential to change the lives of millions of students and teachers across the globe.
You will work closely with product and platform teams to identify and build the key technical components needed to power our app. You will be responsible for comparing various solutions options and propose the right one based on well articulated trade-offs. You will work closely with the site reliability engineering teams to ensure the solution is robust and scalable.
Whatever your background if you love solving technical challenges and love building products people love we want to talk with you. You don't need to know everything, it's more important for having a passion for learning. We're a teaching company after all.
About you
As an individual, you will be self-motivated working autonomously to build parts of the platform solving problems as you encounter them. We are an agile team and follow a lightweight process strongly indexing on impact. Trust, Communication and Collaboration are the primary tenets of our core values.
- 8+ years of strong programming skills in Java, Go, or similar languages.
- Understanding of database technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.
- Experience with source control systems and continuous integration/deployment.
- Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers.
- Desire to learn new things and to help others learn too.
- Excited to build great products.
- Experience building highly scalable backend web services, dealing with low latency API services, scaling them.
- Cloud technologies such as AWS.
- Enthusiasm to learn new technologies like Spring, GraphQL, Kafka, ElasticSearch, k8s, Graph DBs and other tech we use.
